The Yass Book Store to close

Writer: Jo HicksJo Hicks

Sadly, I have decided to close the shop at the end of April this year.

Some of you may already know that our home is for sale and when/if it sells we are planning a move to Canberra to be nearer family.

I know many of you will miss the shop, both as a space to escape life for a short time and for the lovely books, stationery, collectables and (sometimes) kittens. I will miss the space and the people I have had the pleasure to chat to and get to know - locals and visitors. It has been a joy discovering and meeting the local talent we have in the arts; writers, illustrators, musicians, artists, poets and makers.

I have met and worked with wonderful people, including my colleagues in the shop and the Yass Makers next door, authors, library teams and other supporters. I'll have a chance to thank you all personally in the coming months.

Reader and writers are really the best people!

Have you RSVP'd for the Kyra Geddes author talk on Saturday?

I don't want to end on a negative note, but I am sad that the bookstore will be another small business closing, or for sale, in Yass. Things are tough in retail and hospitality and I can't express how much I appreciate those who have ordered books through me, spent money in the shop, brought visitors in and attended our events.

I am excited about our next stage in life but sad to see the bookshop close (if you know of anyone hankering to own a bookshop, put them in touch with me).

Important

  • If you have a shop gift voucher please dig it out and use it before we close up.

  • I'll send an email to customers with loyalty points soon to make sure you have the opportunity to use those.

  • I would love to order in any book(s) you want over the next few months but I won't be buying new releases.

  • You can follow Meri Collectables on Instagram.

I'll keep you updated with anything else that comes up between now and May including sales, news on the space and anything else that may be of interest.

Jo

Jo, I am so sorry to hear this but life goes on! I appreciate the support you have given the the author talks at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library and will greatly miss being able to buy books on the night. Too many book stores are disappearing unfortunately. All the best for your future move.

I am so sorry to hear this, Jo! I have loved being able to come in and browse, and pick up books throughout the last few years. I'm sure I'll be in again several times before you close. Karen xx
